If you’ve ended up feeling confused (due to the recent announcement by the AHA that saturated fat and coconut oil increase your chances of heart disease) and you’re wondering whether coconut oil IS good for you or not, then read on and watch this funny video (click the photo below)…
1. The studies didn’t use an unrefined, extra virign cold pressed coconut oil, actually I don’t think they used coconut oil at all! Due to its molecular structure, coconut oil is absorbed and utilised in the body in a different way to a lot of other saturated fats. It has many health benefits such as supporting your thyroid function, your brain, immune system, balancing your hormones, boosts your metabolism, AND can raise the “good fats” (HDL) in your body and actually improve the quality of the “bad fats” (LDL) in your body which can help to LOWER your chances of heart disease! It also has some wonderful anti-bacterial, anti-viral and anti-fungal benefits.
2. Your body needs some GOOD QUALITY saturated fats. Your cell membranes are made of saturated fat, so if you exclude healthy saturated fats from your diet you could be creating health problems. Plus your brain just loves the energy source from coconut oil, so if you cut back on this wonderful fat, you could be negatively affecting your mental health.
3. As this video mentions, unsaturated vegetable oils are notoriously unstable. Heat, light and oxygen will degrade the oil very quickly making it rancid and therefore becoming a free radical. So if you cook with it you’re eating a TOXIC substance. Plus a lot of these oils are stored in clear plastic containers which allows the light in (destroying the oil) AND they absorb the nasty chemicals of the plastic (more toxicity for your body to deal with). So probably by the time you actually buy this type of oil, it will have been sitting on the supermarket shelf for a while absorbing all that light and it will already be rancid before you’ve even opened the bottle! Please STAY AWAY from margarines or butter substitutes – especially the ones that spread directly from the container – THESE ARE TOXIC PRODUCTS because the oils have been heated and treated.
4. As you may know, I help women improve their energy levels and coconut oil is a FABULOUS support in this. Due to the way it’s absorbed in the body, the cells utilise it for energy and store very little of it as fat. YAY!
So there you go, just a few pointers as to why I believe coconut oil IS GOOD FOR YOU!

As with many things, we’re on the same page Sally. I’ve been using coconut oil (extra virgin, organic and raw) for several years now. I also do all sorts with it, haha!
